Active People Survey

About The Survey

The Active People Survey was commissioned by Sport England, the leading sports development agency in England. Ipsos MORI, a large market research company, was awarded the contract to carry out the survey following competitive tendering.

The primary objective of the Active People Survey is to measure levels of participation in sport and active recreation and its contribution to improving the health of the nation. Sport and active recreation includes walking and cycling for recreation in addition to more traditional formal and informal sports.

This is the largest single survey of sport and actvie recreation ever undertaken in Europe. Over 350,000 people were surveyed between Oct 2005 and Oct 2006, and at least 1000 people in each Local Authority across England were involved.
