Child Okeford Village Design Statement
Village and Town Design Statements (V/TDS) offer a framework for engaging local people in the debate about how new development can fit into the existing pattern and surroundings of both the local built and natural environments. V/TDSs offer a practical tool in addressing local communities’ genuine and legitimate concerns on the potential impact of new development on local character, and if used properly, can help developers understand local people’s views and perceptions at the outset of the design and development process.
On 24th May 2007 North Dorset District Council’s Cabinet agreed the content of the Child Okeford VDS Supplementary Planning Document for the purposes of public consultation. It also agreed the content of two supporting documents: the Sustainability Appraisal Report and the Consultation Statement. The document is supplementary to the existing Local Plan and sets out design principles for new development in Child Okeford based on the distinctive local character and requirements of the village.
The statutory period for consultation on the Child Okeford VDS consultation draft and supporting documents ran from Friday 8th June to Friday 20th July 2007. A full schedule of all the responses to the formal consultation exercise was produced for Cabinet on 29th October and adopted by the Council on the 30th November. The agendas and minutes for these meetings can be downloaded from the Minutes & Agendas section of this website.
The Council is required to carry out a Sustainability Apprasial of each Supplementary Planning Document. The Sustainability Appraisal for the VDS can be downloaded from the link on the right.
