Community Orchard - Shaftesbury
Project Description
The Community Orchard project is a community led initiative to establish a new orchard
in the Enmore Green area of Shaftesbury. It will be developed on a redundant piece of land owned
by Shaftesbury Town Council known as the Donkey Field. The project will establish a range of fruit
trees, and managed in an environmentally sustainable way. In addition, the orchard will have a
seating area, access for all, and on-site interpretation. Local schools are being encouraged to
be involved with the project, and local people are forming a "Friends of the Donkey Field"
group to help manage the site.
Project Proposer
The project is overseen by Shaftesbury District Task Force, which is the community
partnership in the area.
Amount Awarded
£15,173 which represents 100% of the funding required. These costs included
providing disabled access to the site.
On going maintenance of the site will be managed by the Town Council.

- Improved perception of site cleanliness
- Number of sites with improved access to public
- Number of new trees planted by community groups
