Council Tax and Spending

Value for Money

Our aim is to provide best quality public services, which represent real value for money for the people of North Dorset. We know that, in order to decide whether something is value for money, you need to understand how much our services cost you, and what you get in return. We have produced this page to give you that information.

What do you get for your money?

The money you pay in Council Tax goes towards the cost of everything from running our schools and providing home care, to repairing the roads. Click here to find out about this year’s Council Tax levels.

Help us to stop fraudulent claims

If you know anyone who is claiming benefits and failing to declare their full income or family circumstances, please contact the Benefit Fraud Hotline on (01258) 484191. All calls are treated as confidential.

Business Rates

The bill is calculated by multiplying the property's Rateable Value with the Government's (2008/09 national rate multiplier of 46.2 in the pound, in respect of premises in receipt of Small Business Relief the multiplier is 45.8 pence in the pound). The resulting figure may then be adjusted to reflect transitional arrangements or relief applicable to the particular circumstances of the property.
