The Gillingham Community Facilities Project Board was established early in 2004 as a partnership between Gillingham Town Council, the Three Rivers Partnership and North Dorset District Council. The key aim of the Project Board is to make rapid progress to provide Gillingham and its surrounding area with new community and leisure facilities. The Leisure Centre in Hardings Lane, Gillingham, urgently requires replacement and there is also a long-established need for a new multi-purpose community hall. The District Council has publicly pledged £3million to support the provision of new community facilities in the town but more funding is required and there are many other issues to resolve, such as the location of the facilities and their long-term management. Cllr Michael Roake, North Dorset District Council’s cabinet member for Community Services, chairs the Project Board. The Terms of Reference of the Project Board and the minutes of all previous meetings can be viewed on this webpage (see Quick Links for minutes). The Project Board will continue to meet on a regular basis for the foreseeable future. |
