Council Disability Equality Scheme
In November 2006 the Council approved its first Disability Equality Scheme, making
a commitment to take the needs of disabled people into account in everything we do, whether its providing
services, employing people, developing policies, communicating or consulting.
The Scheme has an action plan attached setting out how the council will meet its
statutory duty.
Following extensive consultation with local disabled people and the statutory, voluntary
and community organisations, a series of issues were identified which have been included, where feasible,
in the Action Plan.
Progress on delivering the Action Plan will be monitored and regular reports made
to members and a Disability Focus Group who we will continue to consult with.
North Dorset District Council offers Disabled Facility Grants
to help owner occupiers and tenants with a disability to carry out essential adaptations to their homes.
In addition owner occupiers with a disabiltiy may be eligible for a Decent
Homes Grant to carry out essential repairs to their home.
