and demonstrate fairness and equality of opportunity, in the provision of services and employment of
staff for and between
- Men and women generally
- Persons of different
religions/beliefs, racial group, age, marital status or sexual orientation
- Persons
of different socio-economic status
- Persons with a disability and persons without
- Persons
with dependents and persons without
- Mainstream equality legislation and ensure that
due regard is given to address exclusion and inequality experienced by groups that are very small in
community numbers
- Provide a framework for future action to promote equal opportunities
and good relations, and eliminate unlawful discrimination within North Dorset
- Achieve
measurable progress against agreed targets
Mainstreaming Equality means the Council has adopted the principles of the Race
Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and applied this to other equality strands, using this legislation as
a framework to promote equality across all areas. This similar approach will be used to tackle other
areas of inequality including disability, gender, sexual orientation, religion/belief and age.
