Ibberton Cricket Club
Ibberton epitomises the ideal of village cricket, with a new ground behind the Hall
surround by gentle hills and rolling farmland.
The club has been in existence for many years and at the moment we play a number
of friendly fixtures, two of which include visits from the Badgers, composed of sub editors from The
Mirror and Sun newspapers and the evergreen Mick Robinson who brings a carefully chosen team to bat
annually against his former village.
We also compete, a little more seriously, in the Sunday Dorset League, Division
7. Although it is league cricket with a competitive edge, there is still a friendly atmoshpere and a
chance to discuss performance over a beer at the end of the day.
Our president is Derek Old and the club owes Derek a great debt for the work he
has undertaken to provide us with a new ground called the Ibberton Oval.
For juniors the club runs teams at under 11, under 13 and under 15 levels. These
teams have a number of mid week fixtures and are coached by Malcolm Dudley. If there are any young players
in the area who are keen to take part and improve their batting and bowling skills, contact Malcolm
on (01258) 817049.
The club produces three newsletters during the season and an end of season presentation
evening will take place during the autumn.
