Dangerous Wild Animals

Anyone who wishes to keep a 'dangerous wild animal' will need a licence issued by the Council (this does not apply to circuses, zoos or pet shops as these are covered by other legislation). Random examples of animals included in the Act are: wild boar, emu, ostrich, venomous snakes, capuchin monkeys etc. The Council will require that the applicant is suitable, the location of the accommodation and care for the animal is fully compliant with standards and that there is no safety risk as defined in the Act. The licence will require annual renewal if granted and a fee is payable.

An application form is avaliable and the current fees can be checked with the link below.  If you are a new applicant then you are advised to discuss your proposal with us before applying.

Please call Environmental Health at North Dorset District Council (01258) 484381 or e-mail us for more details of this service.
