Food and water-borne illness

The service receives enquiries from the public on illnesses suspected of being acquired from consuming food or water. We work closely with Health Protection Dorset on the investigation of such illness so that action can be considered to try and prevent further cases.

We do not provide advice on the treatment of symptoms and may refer callers to their GP so that the illness can be properly diagnosed. The latter helps us to make a definite link to the source of the illness, for example a take-away meal, private water supply etc.

More information on food poisoning can be found on the public health page

Please call Environmental Health at North Dorset District Council (01258) 484381 or e-mail us for more details of this service.
