Health and Safety Inspection of Premises and Work Programme

The HSE and local authorities work in partnership and now have joint work programmes and campaigns.  These are intended to target work activities where research has shown there to be particular injury or disease risks.

If you would like to read about the current strategy for workplace health and safety up until 2010 please visit the HSE website.

The work programme for this year is attached. Small Adobe Acrobat PDF iconhealth and Safety  Enforcement Service Plan

Examples of the types of premises where North Dorset District Council have the enforcement responsibility include:

  • Offices
  • Catering (e.g. cafes, restaurants and public houses)
  • Retail and wholesale premises (e.g. builder’s merchants, fuel station and town centre shop)
  • Leisure and cultural (riding establishment, music festival, cinemas, and circuses)
  • Services (e.g. playgroups, estate agents, hairdressers, ear piercing and tattooists)

In addition to inspections and visits to premises on specific topics the Council will consider complaints and investigate accidents as appropriate.
