Domestic Bonfires

Introduction

Every year the Environmental Protection Service receives a large number of complaints about bonfires causing a repeated nuisance.

The Council has two publications that provide further information and they can be accessed below:

'Bonfires, Smoke Nuisance and The Law' outlines the legal position concerning smoke nuisance and waste disposal and provides basic advice to avoid the need for a fire and to reduce the likelihood of a nuisance arising.

'Are you affected by a smoke nuisance' provides guidance to those troubled by smoke and outlines the typical approach that the Council can take to resolve such problems.

Composting is a better way of dealing with garden waste. Not only does it remove the problem, but it turns it into a useful soil conditioner.

Please call Environmental Health at North Dorset District Council (01258) 484381 or e-mail us for more details of this service.
