Private Water Supplies

Although the majority of the UK population is served by a mains piped water supply, there are many private supplies. These vary in size between supplies to a single dwelling and those serving farms and surrounding houses and food factories. Some supplies will not have any form of chemical or filtration treatment and can be susceptible to bacterial contamination and the risk of transmitting diseases.
Councils have a duty to sample and analyse supplies through monitoring programmes.
Problems with main water supplies should, in the first instance, be addressed to your water supplier, usually Wessex Water. Those served by private water supplies are also advised to contact the supply owner in the event of any problems arising, or the Environmental Health team if this does not resolve matters.
Water in public swimming pools is subject to periodic sampling and analysis.
Please call Environmental Health at North Dorset District Council (01258) 484381 or e-mail us for more details of this service. |
