Stiles into Kissing/Sprung Gates - Sturminster Newton
Project Description
This project aimed to improve the accessibility of the local rights of way network
by changing 27 stiles into either kissing gates or sprung gates. This would be able to help
improve access to the countryside for all users, including the less able.

Sturquest – the community company for Sturminster Newton and its surrounding areas.
Amount Awarded
£4, 618 which represented 75% of total funding required for the project.
Amount Levered
£2,500 was levered from Dorset County Council

Timescale
The project will commence in January 2005 and will be completed by March 2005.
Lessons Learnt
We learnt that sprung gates were cheaper and more preferable to kissing gates where
landowners were in agreement. They are more accessible for the less able as well. We will try
to encourage groups to use sprung gates where possible.
