North Dorset Wessex Ridgeway
Project Description
The Wessex Ridgeway is a community based, countryside recreation project co-ordinated
by the Dorset Countryside Ranger Service. The project aimed to involve the 16 parishes in North
Dorset that the Ridgeway crosses; develop a high quality multiuse trail which is accessible for all;
increase public awareness and understanding of the environment and heritage of the Ridgeway and encourage
healthy living. It also aimed to support and assist with the rural economy, rural transport and
a sustainable recreational resource aiding economic diversification. The project will also be
piloting a "visitor payback scheme" and baggage transfer.
