Tree Warden Scheme
The Council currently has around 40 Tree Wardens actively taking part in the scheme.
What are Tree Wardens?
Tree Wardens are people appointed by their community group, residents association,
parish council, or community council to gather information and to encourage practical projects relating
to trees in the community.
Why are Tree Wardens needed?
Over many years, woods and hedgerows have been disappearing from our landscape at
an alarming rate. The causes have been many and varied: disease, neglect, urban sprawl and, the storms
of 1987 and 1990 when 15 million trees were lost in South East England. The millions of trees that have
been lost have made everyone realise that action is needed now if future generations are to enjoy and
benefit from trees in our towns, cities and countryside.
What can Tree Wardens do?
- Gather information
- Local liason with the community
- Practical
Projects
- Help to protect tree
The Tree Warden Scheme aims to pull together enthusiasts with different backgrounds
to form and effective network of people concerned about trees.
