Winterborne Stickland Play Area
This project aims to stimulate a wide range of imaginative and physical play, focussing on babies, toddlers, older and disabled children alike. The play area will combine pieces that stimulate rocking, touch and social development play with ones that facilitate sliding, swinging and moderate climbing for older children and encourage adventure through the development of balance and eye, hand coordination.
The grant will be used to procure the following pieces of equipment; Flying saucer, Ball catcher-cat, an adventure path, including Hercules, Robinson Crusoe, Robin Hood and Zorro bridges and step-bollards linking the bridges; an ocean star, incluve of 2 slides, 2 ladders and climbing frame, bumper seesaw, triple twist, picnic table and park seat. The grant will also cover the installation of all equipment into grass, including Safagrass Mats and carriage to the site.
The following outcomes are expected from the implementation of this project:
- the number of children and young people attracted to energetic play and engaged in a wide range of play experiences at this play area will increase from 0 to 75 by the end of the grant period.
- 20 children and young people will demonstrate increased confidence and self worth through the provision of free play spaces.
- 12 of the children and young people will become involved in the design, use, operation and maintenance of the play area by the end of the grant period.
The project is estimated to cost £32,632 with £31,632 coming from BLF and the remaining £1,000 raised by the parish council. This project is set to start in Mid September 2007.
