Child Okeford Village Design Statement
The Child Okeford Village Design Statement (VDS) was prepared by a team of local people working together with the District Council. It was adopted by the District Council as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on 30 November 2007 (see link to the Adoption Statement to the right). The VDS is supplementary to the existing Local Plan and, as an SPD, forms part of the Council’s Local Development Framework (LDF).
The VDS describes the character of the village and its landscape setting. It also sets out a number of guidelines for future building and development (Section 8) and sets out a series of recommendations (Section 10), which need to be taken into account when decisions are made on planning applications affecting the village. The VDS can be downloaded in full or in sections from the links to the right. The guidelines and recommendations can also be downloaded separately.
Much informal consultation was undertaken locally before a draft VDS was prepared. Full details of the main issues raised are set out in the Consultation Statement, which can be downloaded from the link to the right.
A statutory period of consultation on the draft VDS took place between 8 June and 20 July 2007. The main issues raised during the formal consultation period are discussed in the Summary of Main Issues document that can be downloaded from the link to the right. A full schedule of all the responses to the formal consultation exercise was prepared for Cabinet on 29 October and adopted by the Council on 30 November 2007. The agendas and minutes for these meetings can be downloaded from the Minutes & Agendas section of this website.
Supplement 1 of the VDS (pages 32 to 35) also provides a brief record of all the consultation that was undertaken.
The Council is required to carry out a Sustainability Appraisal of each SPD it produces, assessing the likely impacts of the proposed policies against a series of social, economic and environmental criteria. The Sustainability Appraisal Report for the VDS can be downloaded from the link to the right.
