Core Strategy Early Consultation

What early consultation took place?

During April 2005 a series of meetings were held in each of the towns in the District, to raise people's awareness of the new process and invite initial comments on issues that the Core Strategy might need to address. The results of these meetings can be seen in the Results of Raising Awareness Meetings April 2005 document, see link to the right.

During July 2005 a series of topic based "focus group" meetings were held. The topics covered were as follows:

  • July 7th - Environment & Renewable Issues
  • July 12th - Living (including community facilities, health and recreation)
  • July 14th - Travelling (including public transport and accessibility)
  • July 21st - Housing (including the need for affordable housing)
  • July 25th - Economy and shopping

How did the Focus Groups work?

Each Focus Group was attended by around 15-20 people who were invitied either because of their expertise in the subject under discussion or because they had shown an interest in the subject from the earlier meetings.

At the Focus Group the participants identified all the issues they felt should be addressed by a future plan. The results of these meetings can be seen in the report Results of Focus Group Meetings July 2005, see link to the right.

At each meeting participants were asked to complete a feedback form to help in planning future consultative events. The results of the feedback can be seen in the report Analysis of Focus Group Feedback : July 2005, see link to the right.

What has happened to the conclusions of the Focus Groups?

The results of the Focus Group meetings were taken to a special meeting of North Dorset's Planning Policy Panel at Durweston Village Hall. Around 45 community representatives attended and helped to shape some initial aims and objectives for the Core Strategy from the issues raised.

The information considered at the meeting can be seen in the attached report First Draft Aims and Objectives for the Core Strategy July 2005, see link to the right. The results of the meeting, which was facilitated by Lyn Wetenhall Associates can be seen in Report of July 27th Consultative Meeting see link to the right.

Following up the meeting on 27th July 2005, the Planning Policy Panel met on 3rd October 2005 and agreed revision to the draft of the vision for the Core Strategy. This can be seen in the document "First Draft : Vision"by clicking on the link to the right.
