Strategic Housing Market Assessment
The purpose of a Strategic Housing Market Assessment (the Assessment) is to provide evidence on housing need and demand, which can be used to develop regional and local planning policies and housing strategies.
In Dorset the Assessment was commissioned by the Dorset Housing Market Area Partnership. It is one of three pilot studies supported by the South West Regional Assembly, which is also the South West Housing Body.
The Dorset Partnership comprised a working group of officers from both planning and housing functions of each of the local authorities as well as representatives of regional government, neighbouring authorities, the Housing Corporation and other housing and economic stakeholders.
The Assessment has been undertaken over the last two years and a suite of draft reports has been prepared. Those relevant to North Dorset can be downloaded from the links to the right. A full set of the documents is available on the ‘Dorset for You’ website (see link to the right).
The draft reports were agreed by the Partnership on 14 March 2008 and consultation is currently being undertaken with key stakeholders. It is anticipated that any final amendments should be completed by the end of May, when the final versions will be uploaded.
For the purposes of the assessment, the whole of North Dorset lies within the Bournemouth / Poole Housing Market Area (HMA) and the key findings for the HMA as a whole are set out in the draft summary report (see link to the right).
More detailed information is provided in the Survey of Housing Need and Demand for the HMA. A separate report has been prepared for North Dorset, which specifically looks at housing need and demand in the District. These documents can be downloaded from the links to the right.
The brief for the study and the results of an initial stakeholder event undertaken in December 2006 are also available from links to the right.
