Saved Policies

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 came into effect in September 2004. Transitional arrangements were put in place to “save” the policies of the existing Local Plan for a period of 3 years to 27th September 2007. Beyond that period, a Direction was required from the Secretary of State in order for policies to be saved for a further period of time. The District Council had to demonstrate that policies to be saved reflected the principles of Local Development Frameworks, were consistent with national policy and that it was not feasible or desirable to replace them by 27th September 2007.

A request for a Direction was forwarded to the Government Office for the South West (GOSW) and a copy of the Direction can be viewed by clicking on the link to the right.

All but 27 policies are being saved. The list of saved policies can be viewed by clicking on the link to the right.

Most of the policies which are not being saved relate to allocations or highway schemes which have already been completed. The list of policies not being saved, together with reasons, can be viewed by clicking on link to the right.

The same process was undertaken for the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Structure Plan. The list of saved policies can be viewed by clicking on the link to the right. All settlement policies and one tourism policy have been deleted in error - see link to GOSW letter. This letter, which acknowledges the error, will be used if required by officers writing development control reports and appeal statements. Further legal advice is being sought. All other policies except 3 minerals & waste policies (now covered in the Waste Local Plan) are to be “saved”.
