Council Tax Discounts and Disregards

A full Council Tax bill assumes that there are two or more adults living in a property. If you are the only adult living in your property you are entitled to a 25% discount. This is known as a Single Person Discount.

The people listed below may be disregarded when counting the number of adult residents in a property.

If all of the adults resident in your property are disregarded then a discount of 50% will apply. If all but one of the adults resident in your property are disregarded then a discount of 25% will apply.

For information on discounts for empty properties, including second homes, click here.

If you wish to claim a discount then please contact the Council .

If your bill shows that a discount has been awarded you must tell the Council of any change of circumstances which may affect your entitlement within 21 days of the change - if you don’t you risk a £50 penalty as well as a backdated bill.
