Young Persons who are at or have recently left school
You will be disregarded if you are under 20 years old and are in full-time education (other than higher education). This includes people of that age who are at school or college and are on courses up to, and including, A level standard.
You will also not be counted if you are at least 18 years old and someone is entitled to child benefit in respect of you, or would be if you were not in local authority care.
If you are under 20 years old and leave school after 30 April you will not be counted until 1 November of the same year. (You may continue to get a discount as a student if you go on to further or higher education.)
Please contact the Council to request a claim application form. The form should be completed in full and returned to the Council,
a.with written confirmation from the school or college with details of the level and type of the course.
b.if someone is in receipt of child benefit, a copy of the Child Benefit letter must be provided along with the completed claim application form.
c.if you leave school after the 30th April, a letter fro the school confirming the date of leaving school.
Following approval, a revised bill of account will be issued.
