Moving Home

Occupying a new home

If you are moving into a property in North Dorset we will require details of your move so that we can update our records and issue you with a new Council Tax bill. To advise us of these details please contact the Council.

Please provide:

  1. Address of the property you are occupying.
  2. Full names and title of occupiers who are aged over 18.
  3. Exact Completion date of purchase or exact start date of tenancy.
  4. Name and address of Landlord.
  5. Exact date furniture and effects moved into property (if different, you may be entitled to an exemption).
  6. Your previous address. If you still own or hold a tenancy on this property, please advise of relevant end of ownership or end of tenancy dates, dependent upon the status of the property you may be entitled to an exemption from Council Tax.
  7. If you are the sole occupier over 18, please advise.

Vacating your home

Please provide:

  1. Address of property you are vacating
  2. Exact date you are vacating. If you are selling the property please advise of exact date of completion of sale and name and contact address of new owner. If a tenant, please advise exact date of end of tenancy and name and contact address of landlord. Please advise if property you are vacating remains furnished or unfurnished, you maybe entitled to an exemption or discount on the vacated property.
  3. Your forwarding address, in order that closing accounts can be sent to you, including credit refunds if applicable. Please note, refunds will not be sent to an empty property.
