To apply for ANY of the social housing in the North Dorset area all applicants MUST apply via the Common Housing Register which is administered by this Council. An application for can be downloaded here.

There are 2 sections to the main Housing Register

  1. The Waiting List is for anyone living in private accommodation i.e. private renting, living with friends/family, occupying tied accommodation etc. AND for applicants who are tenants of other Councils or Housing Associations outside of the North Dorset area.
  2. The Transfer List is for anyone who is a tenant of a housing association home in the North Dorset area who wants to move to another housing association home in North Dorset.

The Council’s current Housing Register and Allocations Policy is currently under review however the Council are in the early stages of introducing a Choice Based Lettings system. Further details will be published as the scheme is developed.

As at April 2007 there are 1027 applicants on the Waiting List and 350 applicants on the Transfer List

Applying for housing

In order to be considered for social housing all eligible applicants must appear on the Housing Register, which is administered by this Council.

Qualification

Applicants must be over 16 years of age and have a 'housing need' and meet the criteria set out in various Statutes or Council policy as being applications for whom the Council has a statutory duty or agreed commitment to accept as applicants for accommodation.
