North Dorset District Council recognises that for a proportion of older persons ‘staying-put’ in their own home no longer represent’s a long-term sustainable option. In these cases their home may no longer meet their changing needs; however they may not have acted upon this knowledge for a variety of reasons, not least because of all the complex options available to them.
North Dorset District Council’s Housing Options Service for Older Persons run in partnership with Anchor Staying Put provides older people with the information, specialist advice and practical support that they need to enable them to make informed choices about whether to move property or to ‘stay-put’ at home. On occasions a single visit may be all that is required. Other service users may want support and where no other support is available this may include assistance appraising the housing options available, advice on repairs and grant assistance, help with packing belongings, sale of unwanted furniture, safe disposal of household records, making contact with removal companies, Registered Social Landlords, estate and letting agents on behalf of the service user.
