Using wheeled bins
Wheeled bins are now a common and modern method of collecting refuse, and have been introduced in many parts of England, including the Dorset authorities of Poole, Bournemouth, East Dorset and Weymouth & Portland.
The benefits of wheeled bins include the reduction of injuries to waste collection operatives, as well as litter reduction, as the containers will stop cats, foxes etc, from ripping the bags open. Please follow these guidelines to make sure the bins can be emptied every time: - Do not overfill the bin. If the lid is not closed it will not be collected.
- Side waste will not be collected unless it is put out in special pre-paid waste sacks purchased from the Council or other approved supplier. Please contact the Council for a list of local suppliers.
- Check your collection calendar as the collection days may have changed.
- Remove the emptied bin from the pavement at the earliest possible opportunity.
- Keeping the bin lids shut at all times will help to deter flies and prevent odours.

If the wheeled bin contains items not accepted by the scheme it will NOT be emptied and it will be the householder’s responsibility to sort the contents ahead of the next collection.
