What can I recycle?
The Council operate two different types of kerbside recycling collection systems in the District, 'Kerbside Sort' and 'Co-Mingled':
Those household on a ‘Kerbside Sort’ round can recycle glass as well as paper, plastic bottles and cans.
Approximately 10,500 households receive a kerbside sort collection (the crew sort materials at the kerbside into a stillage vehicle). Residents on the kerbside sort round can recycle glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles and cans in their green kerbside BOX. A reusable green plastic BAG is provided for paper. See below for full details of what can go in your 'Kerbside Sort' box.
Those on a ‘Co-mingled’ round can only recycle plastic bottles, paper and cans.
On the ‘Co-mingled’ rounds the recycling is loaded mixed together in the back of a collection vehicle. It is then mechanically sorted at a materials recycling facility. We can not collect glass on co-mingled rounds as it would smash and contaminate the other materials. See below for full details of what can go in your 'Co-Mingled' box.
Unsure if you are on a 'Kerbside Sort' or'Co-Mingled' Round - If you are unsure which type of recycling round you are on you can locate your property, with details of its collection day with our online Mapping Service 'Nordmap'.
