How to start Home Composting

I have just bought a home composter but I don’t know how to get started?

Before you start home composting you need to find a suitable place to put your bin.

Site the bin:

  • On soil or grass where possible-if you can only place it on a hard surface then put a thick layer of newspaper in the bottom to soak up the liquid that will drain off.
  • With easy access to empty the bin
  • With access to sunlight
  • If you decide to move your bin, the soil underneath is very fertile and perfect for growing courgettes and tomatoes.

Now all you have to do is start filling up the bin.

Please call Customer Contact at North Dorset District Council on (01258) 484246 or email recycling@north-dorset.gov.uk for further information.
