I've made my compost, now what do I do with it?

When your compost is dark brown and has an earthy sweet smell it is complete.

It's best to leave it for a month or two after the process is complete to let it mature.

Apply about 2cm of mature compost to your garden each year as a general soil fertilizer.

It is not necessary to dig the compost into your garden.

If you leave compost on the surface worms and similar organisms will drag it down.

Also, by digging into the soil you can harm it’s structure which is why many gardeners use it as a fertilizer.

You should never plant seeds or young plants directly into compost as it is too nutritious for the plants to cope.
