Why home compost?
Compost looks very similar to soil but holds many different ‘special properties’ as far as your garden is concerned.
It provides plant food for your garden in a natural balanced form, helping you avoid fertilizers, making your plants grow.
It can help your plants and vegetables to resist diseases. Often plants grown in composted soil do much better than those fed with artificial fertilizers.
Perhaps most importantly it can reduce the amount of waste you put in your bin and help do something beneficial for your garden.
Not bad for a product that used to be a heap of kitchen scraps and garden clippings that you used to throw away!
Advantages of home composting bin?
Many people are not sure whether to have an open heap or a home composting bin.
- Its looks much neater than a heap
- It stops the composting materials from drying out
- It stops weed seeds blowing into the compost
- It helps prevent weeds growing in the compost
- It stops it getting too wet when it is raining.
