Dead animals on the highway
Large Animals (such as deer, sheep, small cattle, horses; cows etc)
Due to recent high profile diseases such as foot and mouth and blue tongue Dorset County Council now arrange for the removal of all large animals from the highway (such as deer, sheep, small cattle, horses; cows etc). Please contact Dorset County Council.
Small Animals (such as badgers)
To report a dead animal on the highway please contact the NDDC customer contact team or use the Dead Animal Reporting system.
Please note NDDC does not remove small wild animals from the highway e.g. Rabbits, Pheasants, Squirrels and Hedgehogs etc.
Pets
For disposal of domestic pets, you should contact your vet.
If NDDC remove a dead cat or dog from the highway it is taken to a local vets to be scanned. If the animal is micro chipped/tattooed the vet will take the animal and inform the owners. If the animal is not identifiable then we record as much detail as possible. Cat owners should also check the Dorset Cats Lost and Found web site - http://dorsetcatslostandfound.co.uk

On private land the landowner has responsibility for disposal.
