Insulation and Heating Grants

Owner occupiers, tenants and landlords may be eligible to apply for grants to make their home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.

If you’re receiving an income or disability related benefit, whether young or old, you may qualify to have your home insulated for FREE.  You may also qualify for heating improvements to your home and if you’re over 60, you could even have central heating installed at no cost to you.

Warmfront

Warm Front

Warm Front is a government-funded scheme which provides insulation and heating grants to make your home warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. If you own your home or rent it from a private landlord and receive certain benefits or credits you may be able to claim grant of up to £2700 for energy efficiency improvements.

In a typical home, around half the heat that is lost escapes through the walls and loft. Installing insulation can significantly reduce your energy bills. For more information please visit www.warmfront.co.uk

Affordable Warmth Grant

If you’re under 60, own your own home and are in receipt of a means tested benefit you may be eligible for help from North Dorset District Council to help pay for the cost of a new heating system or help with improving your existing heating system and/or improving the thermal insulation within your home.

The maximum grant is £8,000 and applicants must be over 18 years of age, occupy the property as their only or main residence and be in receipt of:

  • Income Support
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Households in receipt of working tax credit providing the person entitled to the tax credit has a relevant income of less than £15,460
  • Households in receipt of child tax credit where the child is 16 or over and is in full time non-advanced education, providing the person entitled to the tax credit has a relevant income of less than £15,460

In addition to the above, if you have a Warmfront Grant letter of approval to carry out heating or thermal insulation improvements, but you have to ‘top up’ the grant in order for the work to go ahead, then under the above scheme we may also be able to help you pay for that contribution.

Conditions apply and further information is available from North Dorset District Council.

Heat Project Scheme

Under the Heat Project Scheme tenants may also be eligible for loft and cavity wall grants.  These are available to every tenant, regardless of income. The Heat Project Scheme is a project endorsed by North Dorset District Council. For more information contact:
