Kids Recycling Fun Day
Project Description
The Kids Recycling Fun Day was a one day event held on the 27th
October at the Corn Exchange aimed at encouraging children and parents to take responsibility for their
litter & waste and to encourage them to increase their recycling efforts. The event took place in
October to coincide with the first ever national recycling week, “The Big Recycle."
The event showed children and parents of North Dorset what happens to recycling
and how they can reduce their waste to make a cleaner, greener Dorset. Included in the event were stalls
on re-usable energy, composting, using recycled products, making use of locally resourced products. Over
300 people attended the event was received very positively by all of those who attended.
Amount Awarded
£1000 towards capital costs of event.
Amount Levered
£1000 from North Dorset’s recycling budget provided matched funding.
Liveability Perfromance Indicators
The project clearly supported the cleaner and greener
element of the ODPM agenda for cleaner, safer, greener.

Lessons Learnt
- Needs to be more inclusive for older children, particularly 11 – 14 year
olds.
- More recycled products on sale at events
- Food needs to be provided for all day events
