Local Housing Allowance Questions & Answers from May 2007 presentation
The Government has been developing a new scheme for Housing Benefit. This scheme has been piloted in several areas and is now being rolled out to the rest of the country including North Dorset. It does not replace the Housing Benefit scheme as it operates currently. This new scheme is called The Local Housing Allowance or LHA. The LHA will come into effect on 7th April 2008. This new scheme will not affect people already in receipt of Housing Benefit but it will affect people who make a claim on or after 7th April 2008 or move address (including moving to a different room in the same property).
The LHA will use a flat rate based on the size of the household and the area that the property is in to decide the maximum amount of benefit that will be payable. The rates and the areas we will be using to do this will be published here as soon as they are available.
