Planning Policy
LATEST NEWS: The consultation on The New Plan for North Dorset (which includes the draft Core Strategy and draft Development Management Policies) closed on Friday 14th May 2010. We have received a large number of consultation responses. We will be analysing the responses over the next couple of months and will publish a report summarising the consultation responses once they have all been considered. |
When decisions are made on planning applications they have to be judged against the planning policy applicable in the area. There are several tiers of planning policy:
At the national level the government sets policies that apply across England
At the regional level the South West Councils (formerly the SW Regional Assembly) and GOSW set policies that apply throughout the south west region
At the county level Dorset County Council sets policies on minerals and waste and on transport that apply across Dorset
At the local level the District Council sets planning policies. At North Dorset the planning strategy for the District has been divided into four sections for ease of reference. See below for a quick guide to the local level planning documents.
Each tier of policy has to be consistent with the tiers above - in this way central governments' aims are reflected in local policies.
