Bottom Road Play Area Refurbishment - Stourpaine

This project aims to provide children and young people different experiences and opportunities for play including a climbing frame that is much higher than any other in the area. It will remove current sterile pieces of equipment and install a new range of kit that will encourage energetic and active play.

The grant will be used to procure the following pieces of equipment; buddy swing, roundabout, seesaw, a Uniplay Marl (3 Sided Climbing Frame), a Tumle (Turtle Shaped Springer), a Dewy (Dolphin Shaped Springer), and 3 Tractor Tyres (to be bolted together). Grass Matting has been chosen for the safety surfaces as it is most in keeping with the rural nature of the site. The current equipment will be set out round the edge of the area to form an obstacle course and the centre will be left as an open grassy area playing football. All old/disused equipment will be moved to accommodate the installation of the new items.

The following outcomes are expected from the implementation of this project:

  1. the number of children and young people attracted to energetic play and engaged in a wide range of play experiences at this play area will increase from 16 to 64 by the end of the grant period.
  2. 30 children and young people will demonstrate increased confidence and self worth through the provision of free play spaces.
  3. 12 of the children and young people will become involved in the design, use, operation and maintenance of the play area by the end of the grant period.

The project is estimated to cost £23,188 with £19,901 coming from BLF and the remaining £3,287 raised by the parish council. This project is set to start in September 2007.
