What are the Building Regulations?

The Building Regulations are legal requirements aimed at achieving minimum standards of construction of domestic, commercial and industrial buildings.

The main purpose of the Regulations is to safeguard the health and safety of people in or about buildings.

The Regulations are set down by Government and are split into several sections supported by separate documents indicating practical and technical guidance on ways of achieving compliance. These are known as 'Approved Documents' and are produced in the following sections, each part relating to a different requirement of the Regulations.
